PLANNING TOOL

The Rack It Planner redesign focused on improving the end-to-end planning experience to make configuring storage solutions more intuitive, flexible, and user-centred. Through a combination of UX improvements, interface simplification, and new planning functionality, the project addressed key friction points across onboarding, configuration, visualisation, and checkout.

The redesign introduced a more guided planning experience, improved space visualisation tools, greater flexibility for custom storage and workspace configurations, and a clearer path from design through to purchase. The result is a more accessible and engaging digital experience that helps users plan
with greater confidence and make more informed decisions throughout the process.

LANDING PAGE

The Rack It Planner landing page was redesigned to create a more effective entry point into the planning experience. Previously, the page acted primarily as a direct gateway into the planner with limited context or support, creating a poor experience for mobile users who accessed it via in-store QR codes but could not use the planner on their device.

The updated experience introduces educational content, clearer product guidance, and improved information hierarchy to help users understand the Rack It system before entering the tool. By providing meaningful content and clearer pathways, the redesign improves engagement and creates a more seamless experience across both in-store and digital touchpoints.

ENTRY POINT

The measurements page was refined to create a cleaner and more streamlined entry point into the planner. The previous layout introduced unnecessary friction through competing actions and manual input requirements.

The redesigned experience simplifies the interface, introduces clearer navigation, and incorporates prefilled measurements to reduce effort during setup. Repositioning secondary actions away from the primary flow also helps users move through onboarding more confidently and with fewer distractions.

Together, these improvements create a smoother setup experience, reduce cognitive load, and help users reach the planning stage faster.

ON-BOARDING

The onboarding experience was reworked to create a cleaner and more streamlined introduction to the Rack It Planner. The previous flow felt visually cluttered and relied on a lengthy 9-step tutorial that created friction before users could begin designing.

The new experience introduces a more cohesive UI, supported by a short introductory video, clear progress tracking, and improved visual guidance throughout setup. Simplified bundle imagery and additional product context help users compare options more easily and make informed decisions with greater confidence.

Overall, these changes reduce onboarding friction and create a more engaging and user-friendly experience for both new and returning users.

PLANNER UI IMPROVEMENTS

The planner design refresh reduces visual complexity and creates a more intuitive configuration process. Previously, navigation relied on internal product terminology and a crowded interface that made building and customising storage systems more difficult.

The updated experience introduces clearer, user-friendly categories, guided bay creation with step-by-step selection, and upfront shelving choices to improve transparency and decision-making. Contextual controls also reduce on-screen clutter by displaying options only when relevant, creating a cleaner and more focused workspace.

Together, these improvements simplify the planning process, reduce cognitive load, and help users build storage solutions more confidently and efficiently.

ENHANCED PLACEMENT &
SPACE PLANNING

The planner was improved to support more accurate layout and spacing decisions throughout the configuration process. Previously, users needed to manually enable measurement tools and had limited flexibility when arranging bays.

Dynamic measurements now appear during component placement, providing immediate feedback on spacing and dimensions as users build. Additional spacing controls also allow intentional gaps between bays, making it easier to accommodate real-world constraints and create layouts that better reflect the intended space.

Together, these changes reduce manual effort, improve planning accuracy, and give users greater confidence that their final configuration will meet their storage requirements.

ROOM LAYOUT

The introduction of Room Layout transformed the planner from a single-wall configuration tool into a holistic space planning experience.

Within the older version, users could only design one wall at a time, making it difficult to understand how shelving would work within the overall environment.

This update allows users to plan across multiple walls, adjust room dimensions, and visualise how shelving configurations interact within the full space. By providing a clearer view of layout, access, and spatial relationships, the redesign supports more informed decision-making and greater confidence before purchase.

WORKBENCH & SAVE FUNCTIONALITY

In the original planner, users could create a workbench only through a separate Mobile Workbench flow, where castors were applied by default. The new Workbench experience brings workstation design into the main planning workflow and allows users to choose between a stationary or mobile setup, providing greater flexibility to suit different garage, workshop, and storage needs.

Additional flexibility was introduced for PRO storage systems, allowing cabinets and drawer units to be placed directly within a bay on either castors or timber shelving. This supports more customised configurations that combine shelving, work surfaces, and mobile storage within a single design.

Save functionality was introduced to allow users to store designs at any stage, rather than waiting until completion to generate a design code. This supports longer planning sessions by enabling users to revisit, compare, and share concepts before finalising their configuration.

SMARTER SHOPPING LIST WITH STARTER KIT RECOGNITION

The purchasing experience was redesigned to make the transition from planning to checkout simpler and more cost-effective. This update automatically recognises when selected components match an existing Starter Kit and groups them accordingly, allowing users to benefit from bundled pricing without needing to manually compare products or adjust their design.

The shopping list and summary experience was also refined with clearer organisation, improved visual hierarchy, and more accessible pricing information. Together, these changes reduce complexity, improve transparency, and help users move from configuration to purchase with greater confidence.
